#BeBrave

Sometimes it takes courage to take the first step. Or do the right thing. Or make the smart choice. Brave girls trust their instincts. And brave girls know their worth. Always.

When was the last time you were
brave?

Really fists-clenched-chin-uplifted-heart-racingly brave? Maybe it was at the top of a mountain staring down too steep a slope. Maybe it was at the bottom of some basement stairs knowing it was time to leave a party. Or maybe it was just a quick instant at your locker, in the lunchroom, raising your hand to be heard. Bravery doesn’t wait for momentous occasions. You practice it in small everyday moments - so you’re ready when the big show arrives. #BraveGirlsWin #DareToTry #RaiseYourHand

Want an example of a brave girl trying to change the world?

Meet Taylor Richardson

(aka @astronautstarbright)

Taylor Richardson is an aspiring astronaut, STEM advocate and the force behind the GoFundMe campaign that brought thousands of girls to game-changing movies like Captain Marvel and A Wrinkle In Time! She's inspiring, unstoppable and undeniably brave. We interviewed Taylor (!!!) and here's what she wants middle school girls to know:

Ê: Why do you think it’s so important for girls to see "A Wrinkle In Time" and what do you think is the most important lesson in the movie?

TR: This importance is very simple: Representation  matters and girls, especially those of color, need to see what they can be. This movie shows how girls can embrace their flaws and use them for good. I think the most important lesson in this movie is learning to love and accept your true self and owning it!

Ê: Girls our age sometimes think they are too young to have an impact on the world around them. What would you say to motivated middle school girls who don’t want to wait but want to change the world...today?

TR: I say to those girls: Do it! If you have ideas and ways to make this world better, then make your voice heard and be the change you want to see in the world! It’s that simple. As my idol Dr Mae Jemison would say, “Never be limited by others' limited imagination!” Ad astra warriors! Ad astra!

For our older Être girls,

check out some êxtra wise words from Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani in her book Brave, Not Perfect

We have always loved the athlete oath used by the Special Olympics:

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave.” To Être, that’s the ballgame. Yes, strive to win. But regardless of the outcome, remain brave.
